Lauren Pete joined STAR through Serve Louisiana in September 2024 as the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator for the New Orleans office. As a local from Metairie, Louisiana, she graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. While working towards her degree as a first-generation student, she became involved in on-campus activism and discovered her passion for survivor advocacy. For two years, she served as an officer for LSU Feminists in Action (FIA), an organization which promotes feminist awareness and activism within the greater Baton Rouge community. Her greatest accomplishment as a FIA officer was co-organizing LSU’s Take Back the Night, an event which raises awareness about sexual and interpersonal violence and creates a safe space for survivors. Additionally, during her senior year, she was appointed as Assistant Director for LSU Student Government’s Department of We’re Committed, a department for interpersonal violence advocacy, education, and prevention. She also served as a Red Zone Awareness Ambassador for the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault (LaFASA). In her roles as Assistant Director and Red Zone Ambassador, she shared important resources about safety and prevention with fellow students and connected her peers to departments such as the Office of Title IX and the Lighthouse Program.
In her advocacy work, she is most passionate about making education and resources accessible for all communities. She hopes to bring a fresh, new perspective to STAR and wants to spread the agency’s mission to every corner of the city.
In her free time, Lauren enjoys reading nonfiction books, collecting vinyl records and cassette tapes, attending live music shows with friends, and spending time with her five pet mice.
