SUMMARY:Louisiana Behavioral Health Day at the Capitol
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Louisiana Behavioral Health Day presented in partnership by the Louisiana Mental Health Association and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – Louisiana Chapter. \nLouisiana Behavioral Health Day will bring together passionate volunteers and peers to advocate for state policy changes that will improve behavioral health and prevent suicide. Events will take place within the Capitol Rotunda and on the Capitol Steps. Volunteers and peers are encouraged to meet with your state legislators as part of the event to: \nTell your story as a family advocate or peer \n\nShare with them why behavioral health and suicide prevention is important to YOU and to your community\nEducate them about the work being done in your community in behavioral health and to prevent suicide\nHelp them understand what must be done for behavioral health care and to prevent suicide.\n\n \nAbout the Rally: The event will begin with a rally on the capitol steps to hear from state and local advocacy leaders. We encourage everyone to wear white to “shine a light” on behavioral health and suicide prevention! After the rally\, advocates can pick-up a to-go lunch and connect with community organizations at AZ Young park near the capitol. \nAbout Legislative Meetings: Advocates and peers have the opportunity to set-up meetings with their legislators to discuss making behavioral health and suicide prevention a priority. Meetings are not required. If you would like to schedule a meeting with your legislator\, please register and a member of the event staff will contact you to further assist. \nSchedule of Events: \nCheck-in: 8:00 am – 9:00 am\nAdvocates and peers can check-in at AZ Young Park or in the Rotunda\nRally on the Capitol Steps: 9:00 am\nAFSP LA and LAMHA Tabling in Rotunda: 8:30 am – 2:00 pm\nLunch and Vendors at AZ Young Park: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \n*Legislative Meetings: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm\n*Event staff will contact you about scheduling a meeting with your legislator(s). DESCRIPTION:Calling all survivors of interpersonal and systemic violence\, victims’ loved ones\, criminalized survivors\, allies\, advocates\, and supporters to the State Capitol in Baton Rouge from 9 am-4 pm on Tuesday\, April 25th! Survivors from across the state are coming together to make our voices heard during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and the legislative session. We will hear from advocacy and service organizations\, speak with the legislators about our priorities\, and build fellowship and community with each other. \nWe know what changes need to happen in Louisiana to build safe communities and support healing. No one needs to identify themselves as a survivor or share more than they want to participate! We will provide resources and training to folks on how the legislative process works\, questions to ask legislators\, advocacy talking points\, and grounding/self-care techniques for ourselves. An advocacy training is scheduled via zoom on Sunday April 2nd from 5-7 pm. \nFood will be provided and transportation is available.
