19 local musicians and performers will come together to plant a seed of healing, restoration, dialogue, and action around sexual assault in our community. In a time of polarization, victim blaming, and cancel culture, “Cancel Cabaret” aims to create an environment where nuance, understanding, and growth are possible. This show utilizes musical numbers from the classical musical theater canon as well as original music from local artist, Anna Moss, to tell a story that we’ve all found ourselves near to in one way or another: Sexual Assault, and the community’s often times lacking capacity to respond to sexual assault with grace and actionable steps that create restoration. This production simultaneously entertains, educates, and begs the question: How can we as a community do better to support both survivors and perpetrators of sexual assault so that legitimate healing, growth, and restoration can occur.
Cancel Cabaret will donate a portion of ticket sales to STAR—Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response an organization, who’s vision is to build a community free from oppression and sexual trauma. STAR has personally helped members of our team in challenging times and our team aims to support them through the profits of our ticket sales. You can read more about STAR’s mission here: https://star.ngo/our-story/ other portions of ticket sales will be invested back into the dance, art, yoga, and healing communities of New Orleans by being split amongst the artists involved in the making and support of the show.
